Colorado Springs Teams with TFS in Nation’s Largest Project
“Fertigation has won my heart. It’s an awesome tool for park management.”
--Shawn Riley, Memorial Park Manager, Colorado Springs, Colorado
In 2004 the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado launched an aggressive water conservation program in partnership with Turf Feeding Systems. Today the city has 63 Fertile Water™ fertigation systems in over 500 acres of parks, recreational areas and sports fields with 18 new installations planned for 2008. The city reports significant improvement in its turf quality and recovery rates.
City officials feel that the TFS fertigation equipment is saving money, too. Labor savings from automatic liquid feeding vs. dry application is enough to pay for the system. Further cost reduction comes from lower water use due to better delivery of nutrients in both foliar and root feeding, resulting in healthier plants and fast recovery of stressed turf.
According to one of the Colorado Springs sports field managers, “Fertigation has become a major maintenance tool for our fields. It allows us to maintain our complexes with less labor and rapid recovery of fields damaged by heavy use.”
TFS Pioneers City-Wide Fertigation in Utah
“Turf Feeding Systems are the only way to manage a city park.”
--Larry Fredrickson, Parks Supervisor, St. George, Utah
The first city-wide test of the TFS Fertile Water™ fertigation system was in St. George, Utah, a desert community of about 70,000 near Zion National Park, 120 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is one of the fastest-growing areas in the US and the combination of climate and population growth was putting a great deal of stress on its city parks and recreation areas.
Turf Feeding Systems installed its systems as a “beta test” for the Fertile Water™ turf management concept. Parks Supervisor Larry Fredrickson says, “TFS injectors are the only way to manage a city park. We have injectors in seven parks today and plan to add more next year.”
Water-conservation landscaping
TFS systems are the answer to water-conserving landscapes in any climate. No matter what the native groundcover or plants in your region are, TFS systems provide fertilization that stabilizes plants by nurturing their roots. The healthy maturation of the root system, promoted by constant and even nutrition from the soil, means that the plants thrive and ultimately require less water and maintenance.
